5 Safe Driving Tips We Should All Abide By

The best way to decrease your chances of being involved in an automobile accident is to incorporate safe driving habits into your daily drive. Here are some tips we should all follow:

  • Don't drive when you're under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. If you're under the influence of any substance ask a sober friend for a ride or call a cab.
  • Drive the speed limit. Speeding doesn't really get you there that much faster so the risk isn't worth it. Going over the limit just 10 miles per hour increases your chance of having an accident by as much as 50 percent.
  • Avoid distracted driving. Texting and driving is one form of distracted driving, but there are other forms such as eating, grooming, and changing the radio station.
  • Don't drive if you're sleepy. Drowsy driving can cause you to fall asleep behind the wheel or decrease your ability to focus on the road.
  • Always wear your seatbelt. When worn properly, a seatbelt can prevent you from being thrown around the vehicle and/or thrown through the windshield.
